Master Them To Master Your Life.

Continuation from 13 Sutras To Success - Part-1

4. Analyse your Failures

Take time to evaluate your failures. This gives you opportunity for self-diagnose so that you can re-calibrate your focus. Consider failure as a tuition fee you pay for your success. This will also help you in

  1. Understanding your failures objectively, so that you don’t repeat your mistakes.

  2. Finding the unearthed golden nuggets of opportunity hidden deep within the failure.

  3. Preparing you as a stronger person to act appropriately to future challenges and adversities.

  4. Teaching you the value of perseverance and determination.

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward”. -Martin Luther King Jr

5. Believe in Yourself

Self-doubt is one of the predominant factors for under achievement. From our birth, by default, a human being is programmed with more negative inputs rather than the positive inputs. Because of this whenever you face any new situation, your head voice tells you. you can’t do it…you will be never good enough. You are going to fail…And self-doubt is greedy. when that self-doubt is not attacked immediately and let loose, it devours your confidence, strips your rational thinking, and steals happiness from your heart. In return, it leaves you only with fear and insecurity.

When fear grabs you, your beloved goal forever feels out of reach. If left unchecked, the infectious bite of fear and self-doubt can spread.

If you want to improve yourself, you need to tame your self-doubt, not fight with it. Let’s be clear. That means paying attention to how you react to things, understanding the root of your insecurities, and taking steps to address your fears.

  1. Identify your red flags – Beware to recognise when your self-talk is tuning negative. ‘I can’t’, ‘I don’t’ know’, ‘what if’ are some of the early indicators.

  2. Transform your negative thoughts into positive motivators. Instead of telling ‘I can’t do X’ start telling ‘I can’t do X till now, but I can figure out how to do X’. If you start fearing ‘What if I fail?’ respond saying “If I fail, I will try it once again in a better way’.

  3. Don’t’ allow naysayers suck your energy. Run away from them and surround yourself with people with positive energy, who can support your dreams and goals.

  4. Create a success log and review it quite often - every individual has achieved lots of minor and major successes in life. You too have achieved lots of successes in life. Take time to go through your life till date and create a log of your successes. This will help you believe more in your capabilities to achieve more.

The biggest difference I’ve noticed between successful people and unsuccessful people isn’t intelligence or opportunity or resources. It’s the belief that they can figure out their way and make their goals happen. On a regular basis, we all deal with vulnerability, uncertainty, and failure. None of us are totally perfect and it is not that we are going to do everything right at the first try. Successful people trust that if we start first and move forward anyway, then we will figure out the way.

Let me give you an analogy for ease of understanding. If you have decided to drive from place A to place B, which is 200 kms away, during a new moon day night, what only you know is you need to reach place B, but you don’t know how many obstacles wait on your way. You don’t even see beyond where your headlights focus end. But still you start driving because you know that the moment you move your car by a meter you see the next meter that comes within your visible range and you have enough capabilities to handle the obstructions within the available time constraints. The moment you take your life with such an attitude and you will start seeing startling positive results.

Believe in yourself. This confidence will make the positive difference in your life time and again. You don’t need intelligence, opportunity or resources. Just a simple belief in yourself can work wonders in your favour.

6. Feel the Fear But Do It Anyway

Each human being has something he is afraid of. Successful people are not immune to the fear either. The only thing is it varies from person to person, that’s it. There are some good fears but most of the fears are bad ones. These have lots of destructive effects, such as inaction, procrastination, indecision, effects of negative vicious spiral, lack of focus etc.

Even though you have options to avoid such fears or think that it is going to vanish with time, the best option to choose would be to ‘face the fears and overcome it’. Once you do that then the same situation can’t create a fear in you the next time. Each victory over fear adds to your confidence and helps you overcome the fear yet again in the future, in a more efficient way.

“Curiosity will conquer fear more than even bravery will”. -James Stephens

Please understand both fear and courage reside in our feelings, rather than in facts. You cannot purge either one. The one you use more would come to you more easily the next time. In her book ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway’ Susan Jeffers suggests ‘to get yourself to succeed every time, you must do the things you think you cannot do’. Given below 5 steps would help you in confronting your fears and come out victorious:

  1. Figure out the root cause of fear and understand the triggers – with clarity you can handle it better.

  2. Admit your fears and cognise how it is going to impact your life – use the positive fears and nib the negatives.

  3. Develop a burning desire to achieve your purpose in life – this would strengthen your courage muscles.

  4. Feed the right emotion and starve the wrong ones – Feed your courage and starve the fear.

Just focus on activities what you can control to your advantage – this will expand your control zone and improve your success prospects.
