Our mind is the biggest manufacturing unit we have. It has the capacity to produce whatever one wants to produce. As the owner of this manufacturing plant of ours, we all have the responsibility to take care of it in a way one would take care of any world class manufacturing facility. Keeping it clean and bubbling with positive energy is the one of the best ways to maximize the throughput out of this plant.

You Control The Switch


Every moment thoughts are produced in our brain, whether we are conscious about it or not. Sometimes they are positive thoughts, which allows flowing of creative juices into our brain and sometimes it is negative thoughts, which sucks away our energy. Either be the case, what we need to clearly remember is that all this is manufactured in our brain and we have the capacity to monitor it, control it and change it. Yes! We can change it within a flick, if we decide to do so.

The thoughts you create in your manufacturing unit creates an image of what you are, for you. This development of the self basically emerges across childhood by constructing stories from past experience, the way people around treated you and the influences of other people. This process of constructing the self with these thoughts and experiences does not end there, but still continues into your adulthood and shall be there with us till the time we are breathing our last breath.


We are continually developing and elaborating our image about our self. These past experiences may make us think ourselves as six foot nine inches Goliaths or a lowly shepherd boy, David. Past is past and we are having no power to change it. We can’t change the people who are there out in the world, who are surrounding to influence us. The only thing you can change is your thoughts and by that you as a person. The question is, would you just want to live a lowly shepherd or would like to transform yourself into a warrior who could win against such a terrifying Goliaths of the world?


Your Thoughts Become Your Beliefs


The thoughts which are rsepeated several times become our beliefs. Forming beliefs out of positive thoughts would work wonders in building our self-esteem and confidence, whereas negative beliefs puts us in a situation where one is put in a spiral of negative energy, unhappiness, worry, fear, agitation, anxiety etc. Beliefs make way to our actions and repeated actions forms habits. In his book The Power of Habit’ Charles Duhigg describes about the three step loop when he talks about ‘Habit Loop-how habits work’. He points out “First, there is a cue, a trigger that tells your brain to go into automatic mode and which habit to use.


Then there is the routine, which can be physical or mental or emotional. Finally, there is a reward, which helps your brain figure out if this particular loop is worth remembering for the future: Over time, this loop—cue, routine, reward; cue, routine, reward—becomes more and more automatic.” Charles Duhigg clarifies that ‘Habits aren’t destiny, habits can be changed, ignored or replaced’ but also makes it very clear that when a habit emerges the brain stops fully participating in the decision making process, it diverts focus on to other tasks, so unless you deliberately fight a habit and find new routines and reward system the pattern will unfold automatically.


To Solve The Problem Raise Above The Problem


We often mistake staring at the problem as solving the problem. Of course, to an extent, it is can create some insights but however, when worry becomes fixated and obsessively pensive, this can significantly affect the productivity your manufacturing unit and of life. One of the major challenges for people who linger in negative thought is to move out of worry mode, into problem-solving mode.


Hence, we need to know how to detach from negative thoughts, to detach from our problems and so as to find creative solutions to the existing problems. And the best time to move out of these negative thoughts is when the same is very tender – in the starting stage - and at the very first instance we recognise the negative energy. The best way to move away from the negative thought is to intentionally shifting the focus from the existing negative thought to a positive one. The moment we shift our thoughts to something positive, we start moving away from the negative emotions and start feeling relieved and relaxed. Be aware of the negative cues - look out for the signs of drop in energy levels, creativity or enthusiasm, which indicates negative thoughts creeping into your mind. When you recognise the cue, then it is very easy to move out it, by consciously changing your focus to a positive thought. Positive thinking, hope and optimism are not mere alleviating words or ‘soft skills’. According to Srinivasan S. Pillay, M.D, they are necessary brain adjustments to allow your brain to navigate into the path toward success.


You Design Your Future Through Your Thoughts


As we see, thoughts influence our beliefs and attitudes and help us expand or reduce the options while responding to difficult situations, we need to take care of our thinking and behaviour in ways that it not only has positive results in all the facets of our life but can also positively impact other people around us, whether in the family or at work or in the society. Mastering you mind would give you amazing results. You be the master of your mind, rather than becoming a follower of your thoughts. Mastering your own mind is the personal power and your personal power is the personal energy that drive you to utilise your gifts to add value to yourself, your family and your society. One should be aware of this power and its existence to maximize its utilisation. If you can perceive it and believe it, you can use this personal power of yours to do great things in this world.

All said and done, It’s your life, you are the only person who can change your thoughts, so as to change your life – if not you, who else would? No one other than you can do it for you.


Change your thought and change your life. Just do it.
